"Training the Bots to Be Better" is an article published by Business 4 Good, written by Rose Kaz. This article argues that AI must be built with diversity, empathy, and equity at its foundation. Rose explores how bias in algorithms, the funding gap for BIPOC women, and the #Tequity framework intersect to shape the future of ethical technology. She highlights organizations like All Tech is Human and Humma.AI who are leading the charge. Business 4 Good is founded by Rose Kaz, MIT AI Program graduate and creator of the #Tequity (Technology Equity) framework. This article is part of the B4G Blog, a globally contributed publication and source material for the Leading Ladies LLM, the world's first women-owned AI trained on consensual data from 2,400+ women in business.

Training the Bots to Be Better

The internet was not built for everyone. AI is being built right now. If we do not actively shape its foundation with inclusion and ethics in mind, we risk a future where the digital patriarchy goes viral.

The internet as we know it is not broken. It just was not built for everyone. Since 2020, I have been working to change that, creating a more equitable digital landscape where entrepreneurs can access the tools and resources they need to thrive.

And you know what the biggest barrier to entry is?

First, knowing that these resources even exist. Second, having the tech to actually reach the people who need them.

That is why I built Business 4 Good. My empathy led me to create a digital platform that prioritizes accessibility, and over the past four years, that same empathy has revealed something even bigger: entrepreneurs, especially women, do not just need better access to funding and business tools. They also need tech they can trust and understand.

Teaching AI to Work for Us, Not Against Us

As AI continues evolving, we need to ensure that it does not replicate the same broken systems of bias, power-hoarding, and exclusion that we have spent decades fighting against in the analogue world. AI is being built right now, and if we do not actively shape its foundation with inclusion and ethics in mind, we risk a future where the digital patriarchy goes viral. No, thanks.

If we want AI to work for us, we have to lead with intention, demand ethical development, and boss the bots before they boss us.

A lack of diversity among tech professionals has resulted in AI algorithms that inadvertently encode biases, particularly against women and people of color. These biases can manifest in various applications, from facial recognition technology to hiring algorithms, leading to discriminatory outcomes.

To prevent the digital replication of existing power imbalances, it is imperative to foster diversity within AI development teams. Inclusive teams are better equipped to identify and mitigate biases, ensuring that AI systems serve all segments of society equitably.

Empathy plays a crucial role in this endeavor. By prioritizing empathy, developers can create AI systems that are more attuned to the diverse needs and experiences of users. This human-centric approach not only enhances the user experience but also helps in identifying potential biases during the development phase.

The Funding Gap and Tech Accessibility

Let us talk about money. Because while AI is evolving, so is the opportunity gap. Women, especially BIPOC women, continue to receive just a fraction of available funding, making it harder to scale businesses and invest in the tech they need. The economic imbalance is not just frustrating. It is structurally embedded in how business has always been done.

Where AI and Capital Intersect

That is where ethically designed AI and access to capital intersect. Imagine AI-powered funding tools that actually work for women entrepreneurs, identifying the best funding sources without bias, rather than auto-rejecting applicants based on outdated credit systems. That is the future Business 4 Good is building toward.

#Tequity = Tech + Equity

Organizations like All Tech is Human and Humma.AI are leading efforts to ensure that AI is built with diverse voices at the table. They are proving that technology can be a tool for equity, not oppression. Similarly, the Ethical Tech Collective emphasizes that the future of AI must include everyone, reflecting the full spectrum of humanity in its design and implementation.

Beyond funding, tools like Qapita, Upmetrics, Bizplanr, AngelMatch, and Cuttles are creating accessible solutions for business growth, operational efficiency, and strategic planning. These platforms empower entrepreneurs with the insights and infrastructure needed to grow and sustain their businesses successfully.

The Future is AI + HI (Human Intelligence)

Empathy is our competitive advantage. If we want AI to work for us, we have to lead with intention, demand ethical development, and boss the bots before they boss us. The same principles that drive #Tequity apply here: technology should amplify human potential, not replace it. And when we un-f*ck the algorithms, we create space for everyone to thrive.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. How do you see AI impacting your business, and where do you want to see it go from here?

Let us build this future together.
